Addiction Center
Addiction Center is an informational web guide for those who are struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral and mental health disorders. Addiction Center works with nationally recognized treatment facilities to provide treatment counseling, rehab placement and insurance/financial consultations for those seeking help. Veterans who have seen combat may have co-occurring disorders, such as depression or post-traumatic stress disorder, in addition to an addiction.
SAMHSA:
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. Onward to Opportunity:
Onward to Opportunity, formerly known as the Veterans Career Transition Program, is a free, comprehensive career skills program that provides civilian career training, professional certifications and job placement support to transitioning service members, members of the selected reserves, veterans, and military spouses. O2O partners with private sector companies committed to training and hiring military talent and their spouses earlier in the transition process. If you are not located near one of our on-base installations, we offer distance-learning opportunities through the online-only portion of the program
Hire Heroes USA:
Hire Heroes USA empowers U.S. military members, veterans and military spouses to succeed in the civilian workforce. They strive to be the Nation’s preferred veteran employment service organization through a relentless focus on personalized career coaching that improves clients’ quality of life and strengthens the U.S. economy.
VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Home:
Veterans may receive vocational rehabilitation and employment services to help with job training, employment, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Other services may be provided to assist Veterans in starting their own businesses or independent living services for those who are severely disabled and unable to work in traditional employment.
VA Employment Programs for Homeless Veterans:
VA’s Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program is a national vocational program comprised of three unique programs which assist homeless Veterans in returning to competitive employment: Sheltered Workshop, Transitional Work, and Supported Employment. Veterans in CWT are paid at least the federal or state minimum wage, whichever is higher.
American Job Centers:
America’s Service Locator connects individuals to employment and training opportunities available at local American Job Centers. The website provides contact information for a range of local work-related services, including unemployment benefits, career development, and educational opportunities. The Veteran and Military Transition Center is a one-stop website for employment, training, and financial help after military service.
National Veterans Foundation Job Board & Veteran Resume Guide:
It's important for veterans to be employed in fulfilling jobs to help prevent veteran suicides and homelessness. Hiring a veteran means having employees that have a willingness to learn, work well under pressure, have respect for procedures, work well on a team and are adaptable to many situations. Jobs for veterans means hope!

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS):
TAPS offers compassionate care to all those grieving the loss of a loved one who died while serving in our Armed Forces or as a result of his or her service. Since 1994, TAPS has provided comfort and hope 24/7 through a national peer support network and connection to grief resources, all at no cost to surviving families and loved ones.
Homeless Veterans Program:
No Veteran Should Be Without a Place to Call Home
VA is committed to ending homelessness among Veterans. Our focus is threefold:
- Conducting coordinated outreach to proactively seek out Veterans in need of assistance.
- Connecting homeless and at-risk Veterans with housing solutions, health care, community employment services and other required supports.
- Collaborating with federal, state and local agencies; employers; housing providers, faith-based and community nonprofits; and others to expand employment and affordable housing options for Veterans exiting homelessness.

VASH Program:
The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA provides these services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs) and community-based outreach clinics.
Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program:
Under the SSVF program, VA awards grants to private non-profit organizations and consumer cooperatives who can provide supportive services to very low-income Veteran families living in or transitioning to permanent housing. Grantees provide eligible Veteran families with outreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining VA and other benefits, which may include: Health care services | Daily living services | Personal financial planning services | Transportation services | Fiduciary and payee services | Legal services | Child care services | Housing counseling services. In addition, grantees may also provide time-limited payments to third parties (e.g., landlords, utility companies, moving companies, and licensed child care providers) if these payments help Veteran families stay in or acquire permanent housing on a sustainable basis.
National Coalition for Homeless Veterans:
The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) is the resource and technical assistance center for a national network of community-based service providers and local, state and federal agencies that provide emergency and supportive housing, food, health services, job training and placement assistance, legal aid and case management support for hundreds of thousands of homeless veterans each year.

Operation Protect Veterans:
AARP Fraud Watch Network is teaming with the US Postal Inspection Service to raise awareness of common scams that target America’s military veterans. Watch for suspicious emails, phone calls, or mailings targeting military veterans and report them. You can take a picture with your phone or tablet and email it, or call the toll-free number and leave detailed information about the solicitation. You don’t need to have absolute proof that an offer is fraud to report it.

RallyPoint:
RallyPoint is the premiere digital platform for the military community to come together and discuss military topics both socially and professionally. Our members include military servicemembers, veterans, family members, caregivers, survivors, and supporters of those in uniform. RallyPoint connects members and provides tools to succeed along their entire lifetime journey - from recruit through retirement and beyond. Members build peer to peer relationships across branches, generations, and conflicts forged by the common bond of service. Within the community, members can build their professional network, ask questions, share photos and stories, connect with members in a secure environment, and explore educational and career opportunities.
The Mission Continues:
The Mission Continues empowers veterans facing the challenge of adjusting to life at home to find new missions. We redeploy veterans in their communities, so that their shared legacy will be one of action and service. Through the Mission Continues, veterans serve their country in new ways by engaging in our innovative and action-oriented programs. The first, The Mission Continues’ Fellowship, harnesses veterans’ strengths, skills, and their compassion and empowers them to volunteer with non-profit organizations in their community on a daily basis. The second, The Mission Continues’ Service Platoons, brings teams of veterans who are working together with partners at the local level to build stronger communities and tackle pressing issues.
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA):
Founded in 2004 by an Iraq veteran at a time when there were little to no resources available for post-9/11 vets, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) has quickly become the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization representing new veterans and their families. Now, with nearly 300,000 veterans and civilian supporters nationwide, IAVA is the only 21st Century veterans’ service organization (VSO) dedicated to standing with the 2.8 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan from their first day home through the rest of their lives.
Feed Our Vets:
Since 2008, Feed Our Vets has provided free food assistance to more than 20,000 Veterans and their family members, distributing 445,000 lbs. of food. Feed Our Vets mission is to help Veterans in the United States, their spouses and children, whose circumstances have left them on the battlefield of hunger.
Disabled American Veterans:
DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year. Annually, the organization provides more than 600,000 rides to veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with well over 200,000 benefit claims.
National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP):
The NVLSP is a nonprofit organization that has worked since 1980 to ensure that the government delivers to our nation’s 25 million veterans and active duty personnel the benefits to which they are entitled because of disabilities resulting from their military service to our country.

The Survivors quick start guide begins with a step by step checklist for preparing, applying for, and following up on the available benefits. Headstrong:
Headstrong developed an evidence-based, cost-free, stigma-free, and frictionless mental health treatment program for post-9/11 military veterans that works. By eliminating the “brick and mortar” facilities, headstrong has put funding directly into the care of the veterans. Since headstrong's founding, they have helped over 600 veterans overcome the hidden wounds of war.
VetCenter:
Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families. Readjustment counseling is offered to make a successful transition from military to civilian life or after a traumatic event experienced in the military. Individual, group, marriage and family counseling is offered in addition to referral and connection to other VA or community benefits and services. Vet Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the tragedies of war, loss, grief and transition after trauma.

Asbestos.com - Mesothelioma and Veterans:
Veterans account for nearly a third of all mesothelioma lawsuits in the United States. All branches of the military relied on asbestos in the past, and builders overseas still do. As a result, veterans are more likely than others to develop asbestos-related diseases. Veterans benefits are available from the VA for those diagnosed with mesothelioma.

If you or a Veteran loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos disease, there are special benefits available to you. Mesothelioma has been recognized by the VA as a service-connected condition. Those who have been impacted are entitled to VA Health Care, Disability Compensation, and Dependency & Indemnity Compensation.
Colorado Veteran’s Resources and Benefits:
The State of Colorado offers special benefits for its Veterans including property tax exemptions, state employment preferences, education and tuition assistance, vehicle tags, as well as hunting and fishing license privileges. Eligibility for some benefits may depend on residency, and Veteran disability status.

Colorado VA Clinics:
National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Pass:
Disabled Veterans are eligible for the National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Pass. These passes provide free entrance to more than 2,000 national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, and other federal recreational areas managed by US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Forrest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service and the Bureau of Reclamation.
To apply for the passes, disabled veterans should secure proof of permanent disability such
as a rating decision letter, a VA Healthcare Card noting service connected status, or some
other means, and bring that information in person to a participating federal
recreation site or office.
Heroes on the Water
Heroes on the Water, a 501(c)(3) veterans charity, creates alternative therapeutic programs to serve veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders and their families. These experiential programs incorporate structured activities proven to improve the lives of these men and women. Each experience reduces the impact of post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury while providing much-needed camaraderie and support.
